‘Learning for Life.’

Governors

The role of the Governing Body
The Governing Body helps the school provide the best possible education for its pupils. It provides the Headteacher and the staff with support, advice and information, drawing on its members’ knowledge and experience.

The Governing Body has the responsibility for monitoring and evaluating the school’s effectiveness in the interests of the school and its pupils. The governing Body has the right to discuss, question and refine proposals – while always respecting the professional roles of the Headteacher and staff, and their responsibilities for the management of the school. In its turn the Governing Body answers for its actions, above all to parents and the wider local community for the school’s overall performance.

The Governing Body is made up of:

Current Governing Body

Robert Barker - Staff Governor
Sarah Briggs - Chair of Governor

I am a very motivated and hardworking learning designer – working for a leading digital education company. I am a qualified teacher of science and have spent the last 10 years working in schools training teachers to design exciting skills curriculums. I am hugely passionate about education and the difference it can make and I have 2 post graduate certificates in Education. My particular interests are in STEM education (science, technology, engineering and maths), the arts and the skill of how to learn.

First children should enjoy learning. I have two children and I believe that school should be a place where all children love to go and learn and feel included. Stockbridge nursery and infant school is a fantastic school with dedicated teachers and I would love to play a part in supporting the school and parents in a role as a parent governor. I would be really keen to listen to parents’ ideas and concerns and work with the school to address these. I am really proud of our community in Stockbridge and also volunteer as a peer supporter for Stockbridge sling library where I am able to work with local parents and families and I would relish the opportunity to make a difference to our children’s education.

Sara Bailey - Governor
I’m Sara Bailey and have lived and been part of the Stocksbridge community for over 25 years. My children grew up here, benefiting from the local educational journey from Stocksbridge Nursery Infant to Stocksbridge High School and later transition to Post 16 and university.
Professionally, I have worked within the private and public sectors.  I have considerable experience in school governance within the maintained and multi-academy trust sectors and work for a large MAT.
My main drive for becoming a governor at Stocksbridge Nursery Infants is to be able to give something back and support the school where possible.

Peter Ottaway - Governor
I have lived in Stocksbridge for 7 years with my wife Emily and daughter Harriett is who is 5 years old. Harriett has attended Stocksbridge Nursery and Infants from Nursery age, and is in year 1, and in that time I have seen how the school have helped her blossom into a wonderful little girl.
My wife is a very active part of the FOSNI group, and I also feel I want to give something to the school and help in what ways I can to assist in help the school maximise what it can deliver to students.
I work as a Data Analyst within the NHS, a role I have done for 10 years, previously working in similar roles for Housing Associations and Sheffield Hallam Uni.
Although originally from Nottinghamshire, I am a huge advocate for the community and area around Stocksbridge.
Mrs Joanne Wilkinson - Vice Chairman

Mrs Joanne Wilkinson (Parent Governor, Curriculum and Data Link Governor) – email jwilkinson@stocksbridge-nur.sheffield.sch.uk

“I have been a governor since 2016.  I am a mum to 3 children aged 2, 8 and 10 as well as working as a primary school teacher.  My middle child has ASD which I hope, helps give me an insight into all aspects of education and how children learn.  I hope that I bring a perspective to the governors from a position of understanding how schools work and the obstacles that are currently in place in all schools, in order to support the staff and leadership of the school”.

Some of our Governors had the pleasure of attending the wonderful Mother’s Day Celebrations in school today. It is fantastic seeing the efforts that go into these events and the smiles (and occasional happy tears) on the faces of the children, and the grown-ups.

After the incredible hard work this term, as school closes for the holidays (probably can’t call them Easter Holidays when we’re not quite at Easter yet!), we would like to wish all staff, children and their grown-ups a lovely break, and also spare a thought for some of our staff that continue to work during the holidays, including our fantastic Mr Grocock doing some important jobs to make sure our school remains clean, tidy and safe for the children returning on the 15th April.

Hannah Shepherd - Co-Opted Governor
Eric Wright - Co-Opted Governor, Premises/Health and Safety Link Governor
I have been involved with the school since 1960 in a range of roles, starting as a pupil, then father, grandfather, governor and chair of governors for approximately 30 years.
I was previously a Works Manager in the Steelworks with responsibility for finance, safety, production and personnel.
I was chair of Governors during the transition of the School to a maintained School in the early 1990’s
It has been a pleasure being involved in a forward thinking and successful School.

Harriet Steves - Governor
I currently work for Sheffield City council as an Inclusion specialist supporting children and professionals to get the best outcomes for children. Education is an area I am passionate about but school develops so much more than the academic achievements.
I have had several different careers working in hospitality, labs as a scientist and then later science teacher, before having children and settling in stocksbridge.
I have enjoyed becoming part of the stocksbridge community through baby groups and then children’s hobbies. I am also part of a women’s running group which has been great way to get to know people and the beautiful countryside surrounding Stocksbridge.
I am excited to be a parent governor and hope to bring use my varied skills and knowledge around attendance to support the school.

Laura Stead - Parent Governor
My work background is in supportive family roles with child wellbeing at the centre including  supporting families where a child has been diagnosed with cancer and previously in management with budgeting and financial responsibilities so I have some great experience.
However I am a parent first and foremost to two children, one of which is a SEND child who attends school. I therefore have an inside and outside viewpoint. I care about education and the environment our children are in for most of their week, and I have the skills, passion and voice to advocate for them to grow and achieve.
