Welcome to Year One

The emphasis in Year One is to follow the Key Stage One Curriculum, which focuses on the development of the individual child and provides high quality learning opportunities for the children to learn through play. The children are able to explore, take risks, have fun, form friendships, think critically and form their own ideas.

Our themes for the Summer term will be Panic on Pudding Lane followed by Living things and their environment. Our learning will take us on a journey into the past to 1665 where The Great Plague was at its worse. We will be visiting Eyam and bringing history alive for the children. During the second part of the summer, we will be identifying and classifying animals, learning about habitats and how animals adapt to where they live.

Class 5 will also be taking part in Forest Schools.

Can a pizza be healthy?

Can a pizza be healthy?

This half term's DT project challenged the children to make a healthier pizza using a wrap as the base . They designed, made, tasted and evaluated. The children cut their own vegetables and assembled their own pizzas. Yummy!

As part of our Health Me theme, Taylor Shaw brought their smoothie bike into school. The children had a fantastic time pedalling to create a delicious smoothie!

DT project continued

We have continued with our DT project and have become experts in threading needles and knotting thread. We are learning how to do a running stitch, over stitch and a cross stitch before we design and make our hand puppets.

DT Puppet Making Project in Class 5

First we tested what would stick the material together. We used treasury tags, sellotape and glue, but didn't think any of these would be the most effective way of making a hand puppet. The majority of the class thought sewing would be a better option.
